Publishers of erotica, romance, and erotic romance

Publishing

Logical-Lust is the romance, erotica, and erotic romance imprint of LL-Publications, a digital and print publisher.

On an ongoing basis, Logical-Lust seeks novels/novellas, multi-author anthologies, and single-author short story collections of erotica, romance, and erotic romance for royalty-paying digital and print publication. All sub-genres are needed -- especially BDSM, vanilla, GLBT, heterosexual, contemporary, historical, science fiction, paranormal, mystery/thriller, humor, polyamorous, swinging, monogamous, and any combination therein.

Logical-Lust seeks quality, well-written erotic and romantic fiction with a strong plot, well-developed characters, and an engaging voice that oozes with sensuality. We publish a wide variety of adult fiction -- everything from sexy romance to hot, nasty smut -- but the common denominator is excellent writing. The best way to know what we're looking for is to read the books we publish. Our current catalogue can be found here.

If you have any questions about content, or anything else, please send a query to editor(at)logical-lust.com -- replacing (at) with @.

Please read the submission guidelines below carefully for specific requirements and send all submissions to submissions(at)logical-lust.com -- again, replacing (at) with @.

Submission Guidelines

Before you begin . . .

All contributors MUST be at least 18 years old.

Whether you submit to Logical-Lust or to any other publisher, it is strongly advised that you pay very close attention to the guidelines for each submission call. Editors often immediately reject many submissions, even outstanding ones, because they don’t meet the simplest of criteria for a submission (i.e., word count, subject matter, etc.). Guidelines are set to ensure that we get exactly what we’re looking for in specific submission calls. If your material doesn’t meet the basic guidelines then, no matter how good it is, it won’t be accepted because it’s not what we need for that specific call. If you are in doubt about anything, please send a query to editor(at)logical-lust.com .

How to Submit an Application

Querying first? You don’t have to query us before making a formal submission providing you follow the guidelines as described below.

Simultaneous submissions? If you have already submitted, are submitting, or plan to submit elsewhere the same work you are submitting to us, you MUST inform us at the formal submission stage. Evaluating a manuscript is time and effort consuming. Whilst our strong preference is not to handle simultaneous submissions, we reserve the right to consider any at our discretion.

Your Submission

Please see our sample cover/query letter to get you started. The information you provide in your cover letter is essential in helping us choose which manuscripts to pursue and can be what helps you get that publishing contract.

Novels should be at least 70,000 words in total length.

Novella, anthology, and author collection submissions should be at least 40,000 words in total length.

We will accept submissions of a lesser amount for digital (ebook) release only. In which case, please send a query to editor(at)logical-lust.com

Maximum word count for all submissions is approx 120,000 words. We say ‘approx’ for the maximum because subsequent editing can take a submission below the maximum, but do not send in manuscripts that are way in excess of the maximum.

All submissions should be sent as an attached rich text file (.rtf) or plain text (.txt) file to submissions(at)logical-lust.com with "Book: [TITLE OF SUBMISSION]" in the subject line, replacing "[TITLE OF SUBMISSION]" with the title of your work. Please, DO NOT send WORD (.doc) files!

All submissions MUST be in the following format: 12pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced throughout with an extra space between paragraphs, no indents, left justified only, and must not contain any special formatting. Quotation marks should be straight and italics should be indicated by placing the italicized word or phrase between asterisks, like so: *This sentence is in italics.*

Your initial submission should include:

·

The author's bio of 150 words max, not counting web links, for novel and novella submissions. A complete bio for single-author collections. Or, for multi-author anthologies, the complete bio of the person compiling the anthology.

·

A 3-5 page synopsis for novel and novella submissions that MUST reveal the story's ending. For short story collections and anthologies, please include a description of the collection/anthology's content (genre, style, theme, etc.)

·

For novels and novellas, please send the first, second, and final chapters.

·

For collections and anthologies, please send an excerpt of approximately 500 words from each of five stories in the collection/anthology. If there are less than five stories in the collections, then send one excerpt from each story in the collection/anthology.

·

A statement of ownership (e.g. – “I declare that [TITLE] is my original work and I have complete ownership and authority to submit this work to Logical-Lust.”)

·

The pen name (if used) of the author or compiler.

·

The actual name and address of the author or compiler. (These are for our use only and kept solely on file.)

·

A contact phone number for the author or compiler. (Again, this is for our use only.)

·

The email address of the author or compiler.

Please DO NOT send complete manuscripts unless we request them. If we do request a complete manuscript, it should be formatted in the same manner as stated above and also sent as a plain text (.txt) or rich text (.rtf) file.

Submissions not following the above guidelines will not be considered.

Response Time

Logical-Lust will send an email confirming that we received your submission, usually within a day. If you receive no confirmation email, that means we have not received your submission, for whatever technical reason. Please try again, or send a query to editor(at)logical-lust.com for information.

After the receipt of your initial submission, please allow a minimum of three weeks for us to review your submission and to reach a decision. If you have not heard from us in that time, please feel free to contact us for a status report.

For complete manuscripts, please allow eight weeks for a decision.

Marketing

Prior to the offer of any contract, we require a marketing plan for manuscripts we intend to publish. We expect contracted authors to be fully active in the promotion of their books. Click here for a sample plan.

Editing & Acceptance

Please closely edit your work before submitting to Logical-Lust, even if it means obtaining third-party assistance. Unedited, or poorly edited submissions, will be dismissed without further consideration.

If your submission is not chosen, you may request—without charge—general feedback from our editors about your submission.

NOTE: While editorial comments on rejected submissions are intended to help, they are not to be construed as being conditional to future acceptance. Logical-Lust must judge every submission on its own merits and any communications outside of a contract shall not be entered into. This general feedback is a one-time offer for those who request it.

Editing of submissions after acceptance is considered part of the acceptance, and the editors reserve the right to edit content and length of any submission prior to publication. However, it is not our intention to alter an individual’s writing or style. Editing would only be done if the editor felt it was in the author’s and/or Logical-Lust’s best interests. The editors reserve the right not to accept any submission.

In rare cases, where no final edits can be agreed upon and/or either party wishes to withdraw/reject the submission, only the rights to the submission in its ORIGINAL form are returned to the author. All edits done under contract by our editors are copyright of Logical-Lust and LL-Publications, therefor the rights to those edits remain with us and only the submission in its ORIGINAL form is the property of the author. Authors can, however, retain all of the edits by paying a standard editing fee. No partial edits can be purchased.

Rights

Logical-Lust (LL-Publications) will retain worldwide digital and print rights, which will be exclusive for 730 days from the date of publication, and will retain non-exclusive worldwide digital and print rights after this period unless the author chooses not to extend the contract. If the contract is extended, the author retains secondary rights to his/her work.

Payment terms

For novels/single author collections our standard royalty terms are:

Print: 22.5% of the cover price for books sold directly from our own sources. 7.5% of the cover price for books sold from sources requiring distributor discounts.

Digital (ebook): 55% of the retail download price for sales through our own sources. An equal share of the net income after discount for sales from sources that require distributor discounts.

For multi-author anthologies submitted by one person acting as a compiler and an agent for all the authors involved, we pay the royalty to that agent for the right to publish the material, while authors retain ownership of their work. The anthology agent must provide written proof of consent by all authors they represent, stating that they've granted the agent permission to include their work in the anthology. Responsibility for payment to individual authors lies with said agent, and not with us.

Content Restrictions & Requirements

Submissions containing story lines or factual events involving the following will not be accepted: rape or any non-consensual sexual acts, sex with persons under age 18, incest, bestiality, hate, racism, necrophilia, golden showers, scat/dirt play, or any other material subsequently deemed unsuitable for Logical-Lust.

However, these topics/issues may be related in reference to crimes or mentioned in passing as part of a character's experiences, but they may not be glamorized or vividly described for the purpose of titillation. Nevertheless, Logical-Lust reserves the right to reject submissions containing such material if we feel it's inappropriate.

All sexual content must have clear indication or implication that consent exists, especially in BDSM and role-playing story lines. Consent after-the-fact is not acceptable. Some erotic works can push boundaries and certain aspects of non-consent may be carefully included. But bear in mind, the editor’s decision will be final as to which submissions are acceptable. If in doubt, please send a query to editor(at)logical-lust.com .

Special Note from the Editor

Respect and courtesy at all times are not only appreciated, but also go a long way towards developing a harmonious relationship between editor/publisher and writer.
